What are the Planes of Expression?
Your Natural Temperament
The Planes of Expression show HOW you naturally process and express yourself in the world. It's like discovering whether you're more of a thinker, feeler, doer, or intuitive person. Everyone uses all four planes, but you naturally favor some more than others!
Physical Plane (Action & Doing)
Letters D, E, M, N, V, W (values 4 and 5). This plane shows how you engage with the physical world. High Physical = you're a doer who learns by trying things. Low Physical = you might be more in your head than your body. Physical people are practical, active, and hands-on!
Mental Plane (Thinking & Logic)
Letters A, H, J, Q, S, Z (values 1 and 8). This plane shows how you use your mind and logic. High Mental = you're analytical, intellectual, and love ideas. Low Mental = you might rely more on feelings or actions than analysis. Mental people are logical thinkers and communicators!
Emotional Plane (Feeling & Relating)
Letters B, C, F, K, L, O, T, U, X (values 2, 3, and 6). This plane shows how you connect emotionally with yourself and others. High Emotional = you're sensitive, empathetic, and feel deeply. Low Emotional = you might seem detached or logical. Emotional people are caring and creative!
Intuitive Plane (Knowing & Spirituality)
Letters G, I, P, R, Y (values 7 and 9). This plane shows how you connect with intuition and spiritual wisdom. High Intuitive = you just "know" things and trust your gut. Low Intuitive = you prefer concrete proof over gut feelings. Intuitive people are perceptive and spiritually aware!
Why It Matters
Understanding your planes helps you know WHY you approach life the way you do! It explains why some people need to "think it through" while others "just do it" or "feel it out" or "trust their gut." There's no better or worse - just different ways of experiencing life. Knowing yours helps you play to your strengths!
How to Calculate Your Planes of Expression
Step 1: Write Your Full Birth Name
Use your complete name as it appears on your birth certificate. For example: "JOHN MICHAEL SMITH"
Only letters count - spaces, hyphens, and other characters are ignored.
Step 2: Assign Each Letter to a Plane
Each letter belongs to one of four planes based on its numerology value:
- • Physical (4,5): D, E, M, N, V, W
- • Mental (1,8): A, H, J, Q, S, Z
- • Emotional (2,3,6): B, C, F, K, L, O, T, U, X
- • Intuitive (7,9): G, I, P, R, Y
Step 3: Count Letters in Each Plane
Example: "JOHN MICHAEL SMITH"
- • Physical: M, E, M, H → 4 letters
- • Mental: J, H, A, S, H → 5 letters
- • Emotional: O, C, L, T → 4 letters
- • Intuitive: I, I → 2 letters
Step 4: Interpret Your Results
Your dominant plane (highest count) shows your natural temperament. Your weakest plane (lowest count) shows what you need to develop for balance.
In the example above, this person is Mental Dominant - they're a thinker and communicator who needs to develop their intuitive side!
✨ Pro Tip:
If you have equal numbers in multiple planes, you're naturally balanced in those areas! This gives you versatility. However, having one very dominant plane means you strongly favor that way of experiencing life - which is great for focus but might mean other areas need attention. The goal isn't to be perfectly balanced, but to understand your natural temperament and honor it!

🌈 The Ideal:
The "perfect" planes of expression would be somewhat balanced across all four areas, giving you versatility in how you experience life. BUT most people are dominant in one or two planes - and that's totally fine! Your dominant plane is your STRENGTH, not a limitation. The key is understanding your natural temperament and not trying to be something you're not. Also, consciously develop your weaker planes over time for more balance!
How to Balance Your Planes
Remember: You don't need perfect balance! Your dominant plane is your gift. But developing your weaker planes creates more harmony and versatility in life. Here's how to strengthen each plane:
Strengthen Your Physical Plane
- Exercise regularly - yoga, walking, sports, dancing
- Work with your hands - gardening, cooking, building
- Spend time in nature - hiking, swimming, outdoor activities
- Practice being present in your body - body scan meditations
- Try physical hobbies - pottery, woodworking, martial arts
- When learning, add a physical component (don't just read!)
Strengthen Your Mental Plane
- Read books, articles, and educational content regularly
- Practice logical problem-solving - puzzles, strategy games
- Take courses or learn new subjects that interest you
- Write to organize your thoughts - journaling, blogging
- Engage in thoughtful discussions and debates
- Analyze situations before reacting emotionally or physically
Strengthen Your Emotional Plane
- Practice identifying and naming your emotions
- Express feelings through art, music, or creative writing
- Develop deeper connections in your relationships
- Practice empathy - try to feel what others are feeling
- Allow yourself to cry, laugh, and feel fully
- Consider therapy or emotional intelligence training
Strengthen Your Intuitive Plane
- Practice meditation and mindfulness regularly
- Pay attention to your gut feelings and inner nudges
- Keep a dream journal - notice patterns and symbols
- Explore spiritual practices that resonate with you
- Spend time in silence and solitude to hear inner wisdom
- Trust your first instinct before overthinking it
💡 Integration Exercise:
When facing a decision or problem, try engaging ALL four planes:
- Physical: What action can I take? What do I physically experience?
- Mental: What does logic tell me? What are the facts?
- Emotional: How do I feel about this? What does my heart say?
- Intuitive: What does my gut tell me? What do I just "know"?
Using all four planes creates the most balanced and wise decisions! Your dominant plane will naturally come first, but consciously check in with the others too.
Planes of Expression in Relationships
Understanding each other's dominant planes can massively improve relationships! It explains WHY you approach things differently - it's not that one person is wrong, you just have different natural temperaments!
Physical Dominant in Relationships
How they show love: Through actions! Fixing things, helping physically, giving hugs, doing activities together. Words alone don't mean much - they need to SEE actions.
What they need: Physical affection, quality time doing activities (not just talking), help with practical tasks, appreciation for their actions.
Challenge: Might not express feelings verbally, can seem "unromantic" because they show love through doing rather than saying. Appreciate their actions as love language!
Mental Dominant in Relationships
How they show love: Through communication! Deep conversations, sharing ideas, solving problems together, intellectual connection. They need mental stimulation in relationships.
What they need: Good communication, intellectual respect, meaningful conversations, logical discussions (not just emotional), mental space and alone time to think.
Challenge: Can seem emotionally distant or cold, might analyze feelings instead of just feeling them. Remember they process love through their mind - give them space to think!
Emotional Dominant in Relationships
How they show love: Through feelings and emotional connection! Lots of "I love yous," emotional support, empathy, creating special moments, remembering important dates.
What they need: Emotional intimacy, verbal affection, validation of feelings, quality time for deep connection, reassurance that they're loved and valued.
Challenge: Can be too sensitive or moody, might need constant reassurance, takes things personally. Be gentle - their feelings are their reality and need to be honored!
Intuitive Dominant in Relationships
How they show love: Through deep understanding and spiritual connection! They "just know" what you need, give meaningful gifts, understand you without words, create magical moments.
What they need: Understanding of their spiritual nature, space for alone time and introspection, acceptance of their "weirdness," depth over superficiality in connection.
Challenge: Can seem mysterious or distant, might expect you to "just know" what they need intuitively. Remember they need space to connect with their inner world - don't take it personally!
💕 Relationship Compatibility Tips:
- Physical + Mental: Physical person wants action, Mental wants discussion. Solution: Talk it through THEN do it together!
- Physical + Emotional: Physical shows love through actions, Emotional through feelings. Solution: Recognize different love languages!
- Mental + Emotional: Mental thinks feelings, Emotional feels them. Solution: Mental person - don't analyze everything. Emotional person - explain your feelings logically sometimes!
- Intuitive + any: Intuitive "just knows," others need explanations. Solution: Intuitive person - explain your insights. Others - trust their gut feelings!
Golden rule: Understand that your partner's dominant plane is valid, even if it's different from yours. They're not being difficult - they're just experiencing life through their natural temperament!
